18-month-old found dead in borehole pit

An 18-month-old baby who was trapped in a borehole pit at his home in Joppie village outside Tzaneen has been found dead.

It is believed Mighty Baloyi baby fell into a pit on Saturday and it took emergency services personnel two days to retrieve the body.

The Mopani District Municipality has launched an investigation to establish the circumstances around the borehole which was allegedly left uncovered in the yard of a local headman.

Police in Limpopo are also investigating an inquest case to determine the cause of death.
“Parents are urged to look after their children, especially the young ones as they constantly need supervision,” says police spokesperson Constable Maphure Manamela.
