It’s World Suicide Prevention Day

A Clinical Psychologist based in Polokwane Dr Mpsanyana Makgahlela says it’s important to remove the negative stigma attached to mental illness which is one of the leading causes of suicide

Today marks World Suicide Prevention Day which raises awareness about the warning signs of suicide.
Makgahlela says sometimes suicide is the last resort for someone who is depressed as a result of unending pain caused by life challenges and trauma.
Makgahlela says people who display signs of depression such as unusual behaviour, feelings of helplessness and withdrawal should be assisted and not dismissed.
He says those struggling with depression and anxiety can call the South African Depression and Anxiety Group’s Helpline on 0800 567 567.
