The Democratic Municipal and Allied Workers Union of South Africa (Demawusa) says firefighters should get proper training and equipment including fire extinguishers that can help to prevent tragedies if a fire was to break out.
This after Khuthutshelo Muedi one of the firefighters who died in the tragic Bank of Lisbon Building fire in Johannesburg, was laid to rest at his home village Dzwerani in Thohoyandou on Saturday.
Demawusa Shopsteward Terrence Kgaffe’s wish is to have a death free fire suppression where tragedies like this one doesn’t happen again.
Although Kgaffe says firefighting is risky in nature, but firefighters are committed to providing their services.
He believes the ongoing investigation into the blaze incident will determine what action should be taken.
Relatives and mourners had fewer words to say after the burial of Muedi, but that they have accepted the situation.
Some mourners were grateful for the support shown by the community, emergency services and Demawusa members who were in their numbers.
